Everyone and their grandma’s favourite new band this year, or last year, or possibly the year(s) before, was no doubt The Black Keys. The gritty, trashed-equipment duo of the past have gone 2.0, suited up, expanded their sound and doubled their on-stage presence to a 4-piece (don’t worry, they excuse the new additions for at least half the show) – the results are as spine-tingling and epic as ever and today they’ve got a brand new track for us all to enjoy off their soon to be released new album El Camino. This one’s called Lonely Boy. Obviously you’re already getting this album, and for those who watch television in any capacity, you’ve no doubt naturally become quite familiar with a certain chunk of the Keys catalogue. Lonely Boy will be no exception. I mean, this song just screams car commercial. You know, not in a bad way.
As for the band itself, well you’ll probably never see them outside of a festival or large arena/theatre type setting again. I’m sure some might consider all these changes to be ‘sell-out’ moves but screw that, these guys have always been amazing live and recorded and they deserve every bit of success they’ve gotten. I’m just shocked it didn’t happen sooner, to be honest.
